What is RCIC?

In today’s competitive world, other than the RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant), there are a lot of “ghost” consultants who are either not certified or licensed to practice or make wrong claims of being an RCIC. They operate illegally without having a license from the Regulatory body of immigration consultants known as ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council). Due to their incompetency of not having the license and the education in this field, they are not allowed to give immigration advice. It is a serious crime punishable by a heavy fine and/or jail time if need be. Also, this means that there is no check and balance on them, and they can treat the clients however they like without any accountability. RCICs as the title suggests are Regulated by ICCRC and follow a certain code of professional ethics and abide by the Laws governing in the IRPA (Immigration Refugee Protection Act)

The Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants or RCICs become consultants after going through a rigorous process, where they study immigration law through one of the designated institutions that are approved Canadian colleges by the ICCRC and go through several assignments and federal level EPE exam before they obtain their license. Going through this intensive process builds a lot of knowledge related to Canadian immigration law instead of just having trivial knowledge that the ghost consultants do. This ensures that the clients have a maximum chance of success when their complete application package is put forth to IRCC with the appropriate program as per their case profile.

Even if the warning stories in the media have raised some awareness about these ghost consultants fleecing and cheating clients not only in Canada but also around the world, the fact remains that many still continue to seek them instead of a RCIC, due to the belief that the ghost consultants charge much lower fees and due to the client’s limited knowledge take advantage of giving them wrong advice. Further, many clients eventually end up seeking the services of a RCIC, in the end paying double or triple the cost of what may have been required initially.
